3v3 Soccer U6 2017-2018 (must be 4 by 8/1) Co-ed – Size 3 ball
Goals:
- Introduce players to the concept of soccer
- Teach basic, fundamental skills (mostly dribbling, some passing, shooting with the correct part of their foot!)
- Get maximum number of touches on the ball for each player
- Introduce structured practice and game environments
- Prepare players for the next level
- Create a desire to continue playing soccer
General Rules
- Games are 4, 10 minute quarters with a 2-3 minute quarter break and a 5-minute half time break. All games should start right on the hour and must end 10 minutes before the beginning of the next scheduled game.
- Teams play two concurrent games on adjacent fields. Players are divided in half with teams of 5 on each field.
- Coaches can decide how to split the players. If you decide to divide your team by talent, this needs to be communicated to the other coach. Fields should not be divided by gender.
- Each team will play 3 players on the field at one time. DO NOT ADJUST THIS TO 4v4 OR 5v5 as this will reduce the likelihood that all players are involved in the play
- To the best of your ability, coaches should play/sub players for equal time.
- The head coach from the home team and the assistant coach from the away team will be the designated “referees” on Field A. The head coach from the away team and the assistant coach from the home team will be the designated “referees” on Field B. Coaches may switch fields at half-time.
- Players can be switched at half time if one player (or team) is more dominant.
- Players will play the entire field as both defensive and offensive players. There are no goalkeepers and there should not be a designated defensive player in front of the goal. On field coaches during the game should instruct players to move away from the goal area and remain a short pass from the other players on the team.
- Games are started with a kick off from the center circle. After each goal, the game is re-started by a kick-off from the center circle by the non-scoring team.
- THERE ARE NO CORNER KICKS IN MICRO SOCCER. If a team kicks the ball out over their goal line, the opposing team is awarded an indirect free kick from the 6 yard line.
- Coaches should use discretion in terms of enforcement of the touch line as it is hard for this level of play to keep the ball inbounds. If a player is clearly way out of bounds and/or not making an attempt to re-enter the field of play then play should be stopped and the ball awarded to the other team. Goal line violations should be enforced strictly. At no time should players be dribbling or battling for a ball behind a goal or well beyond the field of play.
- No scores are kept for the games. Players are likely to keep score but coaches should not emphasize score. Coaches are encouraged to not run up the score. There are many ways a good coach can ensure their team does not embarrass the other team.
- Please encourage your families to immediately leave the sidelines after your game ends (cleaning up all trash and debris) and move to another area for handing out snacks and to have a short team meeting.
- At the conclusion of the game each team should gather and prepare to “shake hands” and congratulate the opposing team. This should be done in an area that allows the teams from the next game to begin their warm ups.
- Finally, remember that our league has a zero tolerance policy for abusive coaches or parents. Coaches are responsible for maintaining and modeling good sportsmanship on their sidelines. Respect all players, families and coaches.
