Blast SC teams advance out of group play and into SoCal State Cup Elimination Rounds!

Boys 2013

The Blast Boys 2013 brother teams of DeSantis/Betschart and Baumgaertel/Martin combined to show what they are made of in the Elite Division of State Cup.

The first game saw the boys get unlucky and hit every part of the goal but the net and walking away with a 1-1 tie, even though they dominated their opponent for the majority of the game. Their second game was full of big ups and downs, unfortunately they could not rally from a loss in confidence from a few quick set play goals and ended up losing 2-4.

With a win needed to have any hopes to advance and the undefeated team from the group as the last game, the team finally clicked, and fought off their toughest opponent for a 3-2 win and securing a wild card spot.  All the boys showed determination, when they are clicking together and making good decisions on the field they all play amazing, high pressure soccer.  Although both halves know each other from their practice schedule this year and from friendly scrimmages against one another, they had yet to work together so this was a true test for them trusting themselves and their coaches. Not bad for a newly formed hybrid team playing their first games together – on to the elimination rounds!

Boys 2011

The Blast Boys 2011-DeSantis came into the weekend needing 2 wins to progress out of group play. Their first match was another early LA game against a feisty Valley United Team. We came out strong and put one in right away in the first half. Reid Scholes found the end of a beautiful corner from Matias Miranda, and hit the ball into the back of the net.  We dominated play most of the first half keeping pressure on the other team’s backline, but almost got caught on a counter attack in the last second of the half. Luckily our keeper Francisco (Junior) was there to intimidate the player into missing his shot. After taking some time to settle the game back down in the second half, we had another great finish off a cross. Several players crashed the box and got a piece of it, but ultimately Reid ensured that Logan Krep’s efforts didn’t go to waste, and drove the ball across the line. That goal sealed the deal and knocked the wind out of the other team. The boys came away with a 2-0 score in a must win game! A well earned victory, and an even more important shut out!

Their final game came against a team that was simply fighting for pride. We dominated early and put in 4 goals by half. 2 by Matias Miranda who was really working hard to get a hat trick, one by Reid (who completed a hat trick on the “day”), and then Aiden Marquardt put on a class on how to burry the ball into the upper V. Second half, everyone moved around and were able to use those valuable minutes to play other positions and continue to develop as full COMPLETE players. They worked hard to ensure our youngest player Gordon DeSantis (2013) could finish the game. The chants coming from these boys in support of their young teammate earning and finishing a PK for a 5-0 win is absolutely what sets these kids apart. They are all about competing as a TEAM and supporting each other along the way.

Let’s go crush the next one!!!

Girls 2014

The G2014-Vargas team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the SoCal State Cup on Saturday after defeating a gritty SoCal Elite EC team 4-1. Their two captains capitalized on a free kick and a penalty, taking an early 2-0 lead by the 5 minute mark. That was enough cushion to keep the pressure on Elite throughout the game as their goalie’s head was on a swivel. Defensively, the back “Wall” of G2014-Vargas stifled Elite’s forwards as breakaways and the few shots taken were quickly met with rejection. Blast’s passing was on point and kept providing opportunities. After Elite cut their deficit to one, early in the second half, these battle-tested eight-year-olds clapped back with two team goals where at least four attackers touched the ball. Come out to Surf Sports Park in Del Mar on February 25th and support these warriors as they do battle with LA surf 2014 to advance.

Girls 2012

The Blast G2012 wrap up the 2022-2023 season with elimination in the pool play stage at State Cup (1-2) on a high note with a 1-0 win over (Goal: L. Bollin 27’) Temecula Valley FC Legends, Black.

The girls played a highly competitive weekend falling in 2 previous down to the wire matches 2-1 to OC Surf, 1-0 to City SC Carlsbad.  The competition weekend was a reflection of the season where almost all the games were determined by a one goal differential. Regardless of record, their play was very competitive throughout the season. And the brightest spot was seeing the girls strengthen individual and team building skills, the camaraderie and always finding key moments simply having fun.

Our attitude is gratitude (thank you to all the coaches and parents). Believing in believe, to play with energy and to always give our best. Where girl power, is defined with confidence to lead and support one another to play, grow and be better everywhere through soccer and sports.

Looking forward to another beautiful season through soccer. Pitch Perfect!

Have FUN! Go Blast!
